Updated Class Description From Mr Shelly Plaisance ::: Get you Friday morning started right with sound ....
"Eastern Rhythms for the Western Ear and Group Musical Dynamics" is actually geared toward GROUPS AND TROUPES.
Why? Because it's my theory that as dancers, if you all learn how to breathe and move and make rhythm together, you are not only closer and more cohesive, but more authentic and engaging as performers! Now, imagine yourselves performing, the audience on the edge of their seats... and from no where, you begin to make rhythm with your bodies and maybe even small percussion, or BIG percussion ... AND THEN you all begin moving, dancing, creating SOUND & MOVEMENT all on your own!
No electronics, no CD, just the organic nature of humans making rhythm. And that my friends is the premise of this class :) Hopefully you'll learn a little more about how to recognize and identify rhythms, but more importantly, hopefully you will learn how to hear rhythm in a way that will allow you to become one with your music.
Wow -I wanna wake up like that on Friday... ME ME! - let's see if they'll let me sneak out of registration......
Thanx to Nari and Jo and Sahira.... I GET ONE WHOLE DAY OFF THIS YEAR!.... what day s/ I take off???? oh bother... the choices......

Developing one on one class options ::: Nothing firm yet - but this is ""developing"" - and I am sharing. PLEASE Let us know if you are an interested party by posting a reply here.... that will encourage us to make it happen for you.
A few of our teachers are considering offering ::
1) 30 minute performance review sessions (i.e. submit a youtube sample of you well in advance of the event - then you can spend time talking about & getting some constructive criticism / direction / pointers on where you might want to concentrate your drills/ education / study efforts.
2) 1 hour private dance sessions
These opportunities will develop further ..... and we hope to be able to open them for scheduling sometime in November.
The teachers & students I have spoken to are very excited about the suggestion of a performance review... some have said:::
**** i hope we get some takers as this is sooooo valuable for dancers of any level! i went to art school so i LOVE this kind of critical/formative feedback
*** I think constructive criticism is so helpful, since most people are willing to give compliments, and don't want to be critical (at least not openly).
**** Thanks Z! This is such a good idea!
**** I support this notion. Thinking of my ballet teacher, her words were often harsh, but filled with support. A majority of teachers in this community err on the side of being too complimentary to their students. To improve, we all need to hear more than compliments.

Re: Late Oct News... more and evolving education opportunities....
Fri, November 6, 2009 - 4:44 PMYES the Performance reviews will happen... with a few privates thrown in for good measure! I will create the time and space availability spreadsheet - i love spreadsheets! in the next few weeks - I'll send that out and get the scheduling in motion before Thanx Giving -i promise! If you are interested in this....and have not sent a note to my EMAIL (not tribe mail) please do so soon... as that is how I am scheduling them. Thank you!
Speaking of.... I was directed to these articles by a friend .... some of it applies to skills we can use during Performance Reviews - some does not... but it's all good stuff to think about - even if just our daily lives and how we deal with others and conduct ourselves!
